The Week

The week really whizzed by. Although i only received presents from Daniel and Mum (and a very very sweet card from Dad), they were enough to fill a bucket:

1. a diamond bracelet from Sookee Jewellery
2. a complimentary teddy bear for the purchase of the bracelet
3. a Crazy House t-shirt
4. a poem
5. red roses
6. a sky blue straw bag which has a big flower sewn onto its front
7. a family of wooden dolphin ornaments
8. 2 cookery books
9. 3 photo frames
10. a hand painted (aboriginal art) cloth bag
11. a belated birthday cake from Ms. Maud

1-5 were from Dan and 6-11 from Mum. Nice eh?

My week was great except for some minor hiccups. This is my first formal rotation of the year and i spent the entire at the Perth Zoo. I've always been interested in wildlife medicine but the prospects of me getting hooked up with Singapore Zoo seems really bleak (i think they only employ ang mohs). But god, i've learnt so much this week, being exposed to different kinds of wild animals. If only there was a way to further pursue a career in wildlife medicine......

I saw the rhinoes going through operant conditioning today and it was just like the way i trained Chester. Very amazing. Memphis the male rhino can respond to "come" and "lean in". I'm impressed. I wouldn't mind being a zoo keeper if i wasn't a vet, but i heard that the SG Zoo only employs people with maximum education level of O levels, which means i'm very very very unqualified (haha). Played with the boa constrictors too. I swear i will buy a python as a pet next time. I love 'em snakes. Learnt how to bandage an injured bird's wing, anaesthetise a snake, restrain various wildlife animals from the avian and reptilian group etc. Even saw a wombat being microchipped! It's just an awesome experience for me.....and you know what? I still have one more week at the zoo! Yaaaaaaay!
