My Ugly Hair

Someone told me yesterday that my highlighted hair is VERY UGLY. VERY UGLY leh! Not nice at all leh! Why am i always the one being subjected to such humiliation?! But it's ok. If you feel happier putting someone down and being so brutally honest (or honestly brutal), i forgive u. *does the sign of the Cross*......

I already have a battered self-esteem, so if you're out to make scrambled eggs out of me, it won't work! REALLY!

Enough about being humiliated. I shall think happy thoughts.

My TWO all-time favourite happy thoughts - Chester and Qiqi. Just spoke to sis last night about little Qiqi, and got to speak with the little 'un briefly too. Wah her vocab's really expanding man....i got to hear her say one, four and ten over the phone (after some prompting from sis). She still addresses me as "wawa" though and i'm not complaining! It's also really amusing how she will say "te-ter" immediately after she says "wawa"! For those who are getting confused, baby Qiqi calls me "wawa" instead of "yiyi" (= ah yi = auntie) and calls Chester "te-ter". When she thinks of me, she immediately associates me with Chester as well, which is great i think! I want her to grow up respecting and loving animals as much as our family does.

Just today, i was talking to Sarah about her 2-year-old and she was telling me how Renee (her kid) likes to jump on Roger (her Jack Russell) whenever the poor dog's sleeping. Sarah has already told Renee umpteen times not to do that because Roger's gonna get really mad one day and snap. I was quite surprised when Sarah actually said that if Renee can't learn just by being told off by her, she might just have to learn by being told off by the dog (although of course, she'd hate to see Renee being bitten!). I think the Westerners are really different to us Asians. They teach their kids in such a liberal manner i think it's worth applauding. That's just my opinion. I'd like my children to learn by trial and error, to learn through making mistakes, and ultimately to have the strength to get up after a hard fall.

I think kids are basically sponges, taking up everything we do and say around them. If you tell a kid that dogs bite, the kid will most likely end up being fearful of a dog. A lot of parents do that in SG as far as i can see. Whenever i bring Chester out, there are bound to be some idiotic parents who tell their children "OH THE DOG WILL BITE U. OH THE DOG IS DIRTY DON'T TOUCH HIM". For your information, Chester is probably more obedient and much more cleaner than some of those crazy kids. Well, at least Chester sits when he's told to, and stops barking when he's told to. What about YOUR children huh? (hummph!) I think that's just instilling unecessary fear into your children and it's just so unhealthy to me. I told Sarah about that and she totally agreed with me. It's absurd.

I can't remember what ideas my parents gave us as a kid, but we were pretty rough and tumble, living in a old shophouse with grandma at Havelock Road. (Psst, if you guys know where the Havelock Road teochew porridge stalls are, that's where we lived!) I was told that when we were young, there used to be chickens in our backyard and sis would run in and out just to check if the chicken has laid any eggs. Sis was a real hardcore animal lover when she was young, bringing home stray animals from school on a few occasions. I don't think Dad really reprimanded her except for the fact that he always thinks the animal is "gam jek" (has parasites in its tummy). Well, Dad always says that we inherited his animal loving genes, so i guess we must have been taught to love and respect animals in some ways when we were young. I'm really grateful that my parents never deprived me of any animal contact because I'd hate to miss out on all the wonderful experience i had with our animals. And what dya know? I'm gonna be an animal doctor soon! *beams*

Welp anyway, here's a photo of the little 'un:

Edit: Been told that Qiqi's favourite piece of clothing at the moment is this fishy t-shirt (see pic) i picked for her from Target. Sis told me that whenever this tee is fresh out of the laundry or if she gets access to the closet, she'll pick it up, point at herself and place the t-shirt on herself. How cuuuuuute! *grins*
