The Bad Horsie
I left sunny Singapore last Sunday and jetted back to wintery Perth again. This will be the last winter vacation in my god-knows-how-long-i-have-to-tahan degree and i'm looking forward to graduating in Decemeber and putting an end to my miserable existence here.
Well, i'm still working with horses at the moment and as i'm typing this, i'm waiting for the senior vet to come in and euthanase a race horse which i have been taking care of for this entire week. I gave him his last feed and groomed him just minutes ago, the poor bugger. He's usually really bad-tempered and i don't really blame him for that, having his head tied to his food trough and being confined in a small box. He's spat the dummy, thrown tantrums, bit and kicked various people in the hospital during his stay here. But today as i groomed him, he turned and looked at me, with this somewhat forlorn expression on his face, as if he knew that these were his last hours. He'd usually turn around and nip my jumper (mind you, he's quite vicious) or yank me along on his lead, but today he just quietly rested his head on my shoulder. I was quite taken aback but patted his head gently nonetheless. This horse never ever allowed anyone's hand to even come close to his head, but as he stood there with me that very moment, i guess he knew his time was up and there was no point in guarding against me anymore.
I guess i still haven't really come to terms with euthanasia yet but i definitely understand that it is a neccessary evil.
Anyway, i seem to have lost focus in life recently and i'm finding the thought of graduating rather unnerving. It also kinda dawned upon me that i'm halfway to turning 30 and i'd better do whatever i want to do before i become a senior citizen. Well, i've achieved half of what i've always wanted to do in life, which is of course being a vet. Other than that, i've came up with some other goals which i hope to achieve some time in the near future, maybe? Here's my list:
1. Earn some moolah! (Nothing is possible without *ka-ching*, so there!) Preferably ASAP.
2. Cut my own demo!!!! Preferably by 2005.
3. Get the band together and start jamming again. Preferably before 2004 ends.
4. Specialise in a certain veterinary field (either behaviour or acupuncture) and get certified for it. Preferably by 2006.
5. Have children before i'm 30 (now, i'll need to get hitched first).
6. Start our own music/pet-related business by 2009/2010.
What's YOUR list?
Oh and btw, it's Chester's birthday today. Happy 1st Birthday to the cutest, smartest, most handsome Border Collie on earth!
