The Oath

The Oath

"Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health, the relief of animal suffering, the conservation of livestock resources, the promotion of public health and the advancement of medical knowledge.

I will practice my profession conscientiously, with dignity and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics.

I accept as a lifelong obligation the continual improvement of my professional knowledge and competence."

I've officially "sworn in" into the veterinary profession. The ceremony could have been better if not for the fact that i'm still very, very sick and had a fitful sleep last night. I woke up intermittently to blow the mucus (sticky, blood-tinged green mess! ack!!) out of my nose, and to visit the loo as well. I'm overdosing myself with water to replenish whatever fluid i've lost. Sometimes, i cough so much i actually spew water. Very gross. I'm surprised by how stoic i can be if i want to. I'm actually so sick i can just lie on the floor and die but i'm still happy chauffering the family around, entertaining the little monster and being the jagah (aka couch mistress) at night. Being around your loved ones can have miraculous effects sometimes.

It's about 4pm now and the cocktail party preceding my graduation dinner starts at 6pm. I'm so not in shape to be at a glam function but dad and mum have waited so long for this day and i don't have the heart to skip this dinner and disappoint them. I can already smell mum's hairspray! Haha. I didn't have time to book an appointment with Maurice Meade, so i'm just gonna DIY with my flat iron and wear my hair down. Straight and simple, maybe just a little bit of waves at the end.

Right. I'll go scrub up for the big night now!
