Kitten Power!

Today is a GJD (good job day) for me and i feel immensely pleased and satisfied with myself even after a hard day's work.

Brownie (that's him recovering from surgery!) is a 3 week old stray kitten that was mercilessly attacked by a dog and left to die on the streets with a fractured hip and multiple infected bite wounds. Thankfully, a kind hearted couple found him and brought him to the hospital.

Honestly, i wasn't confident that he was going to survive. The wounds were extensive and surgery had to be done to stitch them up ASAP. The wound on his back extended from one end to the other end. A few more inches and his internal organs would probably all be punctured.

However, he looked like a fighter to me despite the pain and injury. He meowed and cried as if in plea for a second chance. I knew there was no way i was gonna watch him die.

Before the surgery, i warned the couple that his prognosis is poor to guarded. Being so puny and weak, it was highly possible that he would simply die under anaesthetic.

The whole surgery was like a perilous journey. Brownie's heartbeat was weak and threatened to stop too many a time. AC was my assistant for the surgery and had to give mouth to mouth resuscitation (through a tube) to the poor critter throughout the whole procedure. Me? I was just cutting and stitching away furiously.

The end result was satisfying, though i must admit the stitches i placed were not exactly comparable to that of a cosmetic surgeon. However, we managed to complete the whole surgery at the speed of lightning and most of all, Brownie made it.

The couple that found him were completely estactic, and so was i. Brownie woke up from the anaesthetic unscathed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll have a speedy recovery without any complications.

Grim Reaper - 0, Brownie and the whole team - 1! Man, i love my job! Will update y'all on Brownie's condition!
