Music Is Music Is Music
It's a cloudy morning, i'm still half dazed. I remember banging the snare for the longest time in my life last night. And Cal, whacking his bass drum, was totally smashed too. For half goners, i think we did a great job. I remember something about throwing lighters, headbanging to "Paradise City", being spun round and round by Nat, getting dragged to the dancefloor too many times, and being told i'm not allowed to sit down cos the song "Sit Down" wasn't playing. Haha!
I threw up so many times yesterday afternoon. Couldn't make it for the jam but dragged my sorry arse out of bed to Hideout just to catch LBB. Met SL at my void deck and was kinda surprised to see Sly there as well. Yes, Sly. Singapore Idol, "Xiang Long Shi Ba Zhang" Sly. He seems like a genuinely nice boy. No, really. Came across to me as a really down-to-earth person. After meeting him in person, i didn't think he was that poserish after all. To be fair, he can carry off Chinese tunes pretty well.
A good tune is a good tune is a good tune. I love all music. The melody, the lyrics, the groove. I love the unpolished and raw side of music. I also love the intricate and technical side of music. L said that Steve Vai's music is wankery and uncomprehendable. Why? If a Vai fan can be moved to tears by an Arcade Fire song, why not vice versa?
When LK knew i was jamming with indie bands, his first reaction was, "Surely you know who the true musicians are?". I was honestly offended. Fuck this elitist mindset. Honestly. Can't we just love and play music? Music as a single entity without ostracising any genre? By the same token, i hate it when someone tells me i can't play in an indie band because i come from a totally different music background. Eh, not your type la, you rock kind what. Fuck it. It's so stupid.
Irony of ironies, i may be the one heading to London after all that fiasco. I can't believe Dreamtheater and Steve Vai are not listed as one of the "Big Gigs In London" according to them. What the....?! My heart is beating like crazy as i'm clicking away now trying to book tickets online.
Anyway, LocalBarBoy really rocks!! It was all about fun and laughter, which is what i think music should ultimately be about. I was estactic when they played "November '91", as a surprise for Joe. I never thought i'd hear that song again. It was a great set all in all and i sure was glad i didn't stay home last night.
