Back At Work!
Got a call last night to ask if i would be able to work today and i agreed. It's kinda strange to be holding a stethoscope again after nearly 2 months of inactivity. I prayed all the way in the car.
The surgeries were routine ones and i coped okay, 'cept for the last one where i nearly passed out. The feeling was familiar - the tightness in my chest, the cold wind in my airway, breaking out in cold sweat, the bright lights flashing in front of me, the world turning into a dead silence as i struggle to catch my breath. I tied the last knot before slumping on the floor finally. I hate this sorta fainting spells. I didn't skip breakfast though. Maybe i was breath-holding while i was focussing so intensely on the surgery. Maybe.
Thank God the scalpel blade is still my friend. I wouldn't mind just being a surgeon for life.
I received friendster messages from my techs who saw the change in roster and were glad i was coming back to work. These are the same techs who helped me through my 10pm surgeries and went hungry with me till 2am. I'm grateful.
Sharon msged me in the evening and said they were having drinks to celebrate Nat's end-of-exam. I finally got a chance to give Nat her The Smith's "Meat Is Murder" t-shirt and she immediately changed into it, proclaiming that she's gonna make white her colour now! So cute, so Nat! I forgot that Sharon only wanted Menthol airwaves and got her assorted flavours instead, at least 20 strips or more! I'm a gum smuggler and i have more hubba-bubba in my handbag! Heh!
Next week's gonna be a busy work week.
