Reflections
Weekend's gone in a flash. Back to work tomorrow.
The week's been interesting. New job, new experience and a new found sense of pride. Someone requested a reference letter from me, to improve her chances of gaining entrance into vet school. That's like a wow for me. First time sial. Never thought anyone would think me worthy. Heh. I'd like to think that i've inspired people to have the courage to pursue their dreams.
Caught Da Vinci's code with Dan and had a long discussion about religion and faith over mango tea at Starbucks. I think what Langdon said makes a lot of sense: "At the end of the day, it's what you believe in. You can either choose to renew your faith. Or you can dismiss it". Very true.
Anyway last Friday, Dan was caught in a messy situation with his car stuck halfway on a slope. Thank God for bangla workers, the car was rescued in the end. It was a close shave for Dan while it happened, as well as for the workers while they were trying to help us lift the car to safety. Despite being caught in a storm for more than an hour (doing something that was not even their business to begin with), they asked for nothing in return and even rejected the monetary rewards Dan offered them at the end of it all.
I think it's times like these that we reflect upon how we treat others in our everyday lives. To some of us, Bangla workers may be down there in our social hierachy but their willingness to help a stranger in need makes them bigger than anyone of us.
Some time ago, I bought this pass-it-on card from Bras Basah which reads: "Dear Lord, please help me be the kind of person my dog thinks i am." I think it's hilarious but heartwarming at the same time. I'll use this as a reminder for myself to do good to everyone whenever i have the opportunity. I hope you all do too.

Write in to the Straits Times. State the time and place and what they did. It'll help the opinion that not all of them are bad after all that negative publicity generated by the groping incidents (sensationalised, no less by she who blogs for a living)

yeah we probably should. you're not the first one to remind us. :)
generally, i think banglas are actually quite harmless and can be nice.
we had a long discussion on how our culture and goals in life differ from them and came to the conclusion that we're actually pretty fucked up. haha!
