Back To Basics

So yeah, i'm busy mugging for my exam tomorrow. It's a case of "last minute hug Buddha's leg" again, but that has always been my style! Never kiasu, always relack jack!

Last week was kinda crazy (well, in a good way), with the excitement of Dan getting a new job, celebrating the occasion with hot, hot Mala steamboat (which left me gulping Eno for the entire night) and Arabic/Middle Easter food at my favourite Amirah's Grill on Friday. We met up with an old friend who just started his own music school with his brother. Can't believe it's been like 8-9 years since we've known him! Anyway it was great catching up with him and we spent quite awhile yakking about common friends. Ok so here it is, some shameful promotion for my friend: it's called The Music Lab and it's located at Paradiz Centre.

After i'm done with my lessons at OB, i'll be teaching at his school hopefully! So anyone who wants to learn keyboards or piano - come sign up! I also wanna pick up drums again, after stopping for a year or so. It's a bitch not having your own drumset to practice and i can only foresee that happening after we get our own place and I wish that was much, much sooner though......i want my own kitchen to mess up!

So today marks the last day of my lessons at OB. It's been a great learning experience, having lessons with some of these veterans in the music industry. Seems like yesterday when i just went for the audition for the fun of it and now we're at the end of the journey already. The exam is next Wednesday and only 7 from each class (there're 15 of us in the class) will be chosen for our graduation performance, after which 2 from these 7 will be hand-picked to be groomed by the company. It'll definitely be a bonus if i ever reach that stage (though i doubt) but it's not like i die-die have to get it.

I know alot of my other classmates are super competitive and really serious about this whole thing, but as Dad always tells me, it's best to "顺其自然"..."得失心不要太重"...I've followed his wise words for a whole lifetime and i guess i didn't turn out too bad? So yeah, i'll just do my best and hope for the best. I've chosen my song but you hear all the time on PS and SI and what-nots, about people choosing wrong songs and creating a total disaster. I'm crossing my fingers...and toes!

Anyway, i'm suddenly reminded of something i was taught (by this chinese radio personnel) about 2 weeks ago. I can't remember her exact words so i shall attempt to loosely translate what she said in Mandarin to English. She said, "True confidence comes, because you're grateful for what you possess, and not because you feel you're better than someone else." Very wise words indeed and so so so very true.
