If there was only 1 word i can use to describe 2006, it'd be rojak, i suppose? So much happened in 365 days and i experienced every single emotion you could possibly find in a dictionary (make that a thesaurus as well, thanks). The year was as sweet as it was bitter - though bittersweet just doesn't seem to be the right word to use. All in all, i think 2006 was the year i could finally declare that the missing piece in Life's jigsaw puzzle had been found (while Poor Bono still hasn't found what he's looking for...).
Let's see......in 2006, I....
- Lost Cocoa on the 9th of January. It was painful (and is still). When i can truly put it behind, i'll tell you more about how i found her and how she found her way into my heart.
- Adopted Tutti from the CWS not because there was a void to fill, but because i had space to accomodate another homeless creature.
- Lost a good friend to some trivial tiff but found my secondary school bestie after not seeing her for the last 8 years or so. I suppose in Life, you lose some, you gain some.
- Decided to end singlehood and commit myself to Dan for the rest of my life. I figured i didn't need marriage/kids/family life to survive but i want marriage/kids/family life to complete my life, so there....i'm happily waiting to be a missus soon.
- Celebrated our 8th anniversary together, got a diamond scope from him with the words "Marry me?" magnified if you peer into it. Became a proud (and poor) co-owner of La Casa as a result of giving Dan the affirmative answer to the proposal.
- Became a volunteer keyboard instructor at the Handicaps Welfare Association and never felt more inspired in my life before.
- Wrote my first forum letter regarding cabbies being discriminating towards my students at HWA. Letter got published, mixed reactions from everyone - some gave the thumbs-up, some said "tsk tsk" and the kaypoh ones only wanted to know who the alleged "fiance" in the letter referred to.
- Finally sacked myself from the first job after dragging it for such a long time. The straw that broke the camel's back was a kitten named Tuxedo.
- Became Dan's sponsor for the RCIA program at St. Joseph after he decided that he was ready to commit himself to becoming a Catholic.
- Rejected a job offer as a lecturer and got myself this current job. Struggled for awhile due to my inexperience but found help and friendship in a bunch of young colleagues. Got to teach and be an educator finally.
- Started Chester on jumpers and agility training. That dog's capability to learn never fail to amaze me. Made him overcome his frisbee-phobia to finally enjoy playing it (and man, he's getting good). Taught him how to "speak" on command....finaaaaalllly.
- Auditioned for the "Very Artiste Course" held at Billy Koh's (aka Xu HuanLiang) music school and was fortunately selected to be one of the 80 participants, out of 3000 other folks!
- In between, i had a few crazy fights with Daniel, celebrated my folks' 33rd wedding anniversary, saw the bling blings my future mother-in-law got for the traditional tea ceremony (sweet!), reluctantly rejected the cat medicine post-grad course offer, discovered strawberrynet, embarked on my yong tau fu journey and had colleagues/friends failing to recognise me!
I wonder what 2007 has in store for me.
