Shooting Letters
Last year, one of our students from HWA was rudely rejected by a few cabbies and in a pique of anger, i sent a letter to the Straits Times forum to voice out my concerns. Although the letter was published, the matter was unresolved in the end (because either i was a bloody blind bat and remembered the taxi license plate number wronlgy....OR L*A was simply too incompetent and lazy to assist me in tracking the "offenders" down). I know it's a very Singaporean thing to do - not happy, shoot forum letter...but i'd like to think that i did it to raise awareness and not just because i have nothing but an insatiable urge to bitch and complain about everything and anything.
Anyway, a couple of days ago, Dan came across a forum letter on Today which was basically bitching about people bringing dogs to dining places and even suggested imposing rules, regulations and enforcement checks to deter people from doing so (!!!!!!!!!!!). Dan was vehement over this whole issue and said he'll draft out a reply letter to this idiot. Bad enough there already isn't many places we can bring Chester, so we really really really don't need idiots like that thwarting dining plans for us dog owners...which brings me back to the point i reiterate all the time - gawd i really miss Aussie!!!!! People there are generally dog lovers (if not, dog-tolerant at least) and i never had problems bring Chester to places...
Okay i digressed. So in the end, Dan sent out the letter (thinking it probably wouldn't be published) and as you probably would have guessed by now, yes his letter got published! Read it here. Shoo shoo, go read it!
I must say i'm quite impressed by him, not only because he writes pretty well (FYI, he is a English and Lit major and his bread and butter depends largely on being able to write well so a mere forum letter is chicken feet to him lah! :P), but because he has spoken up for the rights of our furry friends and their owners - definitely something i should be proud of!
5 years ago, i'd never have expected a similar reaction from him but witnessing this coming from him now, i'm seriously moved. :)
Kudos to my dear!
