The Trial
So me and Chester went for the trials (for the uninitiated, we didn't commit any crime to warrant the need for us to stand for trial...) and although we screwed it up big time, it was still better than i expected. I was mighty pleased with it all because it has been years since i wanted to train up Chester to compete in the dog trials and i finally did it!! Nothing's ever too late to start and even though Chester's already 4 years' old and has lost out in terms of time as compared to the younger dogs, i'm happy enough with whatever he can do!
We had this conversation many times with his trainer, about how much he's progressed over the past 6 months or so. It's everyone's effort - lucas for his tireless coaching, daniel for facilitating it all by fetching me and the dog everywhere, chester for being himself and of course, a teeny weeny bit of credit should also go to me for the consistent training....heh!
Anyways, we didn't win any official trophy but we took part in the fun events ("best trick in the house") and did our first public frisbee demo/performance! The floor was kinda slippery so i didn't dare make the dog do more challenging acts lest he falls and hurts himself. Tried to be extra careful with the throws but they ended up like half hearted throws. Oh wells! In the end, Chester came in 3rd and won a nice plaque (for decorating the house), dog food (for himself) and Carrefour vouchers (for me!). For some reason, i like trophies, medals and plaques much more and the other stuff! I suppose compared to hard, smelly dog kibbles, it's easier to admire them!
May's here and i have a date with someone at The Line next week. Happy happy happy! OMG i'm getting married next month too!
