Meooooooow!

Scaredy Cat!

This is one of the stray cats that hang out at the void deck near our place. He's affectionately known as Scaredy Cat to us but no prizes for guessing why we call him that! Dan took this pic of him when we caught him snoozing at the back of someone's pick up. With his big round face, pink nose and doe-eyed look, he's an absolutely cutie and it doesn't come as a surprise that the husband has spoken, countless of times, of his "evil plans" to cat-nap him if he gets a chance to. Nevermind even if he's grimy and filthy all the time!

Anyway, i thought he got lost last week when i didn't see him for a couple of days. The weather was pretty rough during that time and even though we always joke about these stray (and fat) cats being so well-fed by the residents and having such a good life, i know for myself that it can still get tough for them at times - especially having no decent roof over your head when it's pouring tigers and great danes.

Thank goodness, during one of the nights when the husband went out to get chai tao kway, he spotted Scaredy Cat and came home to inform the very-relieved me. I really like him and he's also grown to be quite fond of us (he used to be reaaally scared of us!) and meows in a super manja way whenever we stop to pet him.

There're 2 more other cats that we "know" in the neighbourhood but Scaredy Cat is still our favourite! The other 2 are affectionately known as VERY Scaredy Cat and Rim Scratcher - both nicknames thought up by the very creative husband! Heh! Very Scaredy Cat is a orange and white cat who is always apprehensive and running away. Doesn't help that Scaredy Cat seems to be the alpha around and when we approached Very Scaredy Cat the other day, Scaredy Cat prowled right over and Very Scaredy Cat responded with a hiss before running away (again).

Rim Scratcher is tortoise-shelled and is forever scratching someone's tyres and rims!!! We always seem to be catching it red-pawed (red-handed) in the act of sharpening its claws! I'm sure he's left his mark on our car but for now, he's still innocent until proven guilty...hahaha!

I love our "community cats" - can't call them "strays" because they're not exactly feral and they get almost everything a home cat does except proper shelter. Still, having a home is better than roaming the streets so for those who're looking at getting a cat, there're lots of Singapura cats waiting for their furever home - do check this out because there're lots of adoption profiles of cute , local cats there!

CW (who maintains the site) is a familiar name in the local forums and is very vocal especially where animal welfare is concerned. He was also one of the guys who helped me during the adoption process of Tutti and i can never stop being awed by the time and effort these guys put in to help our community cats. With my recent "appointment" in one of the new, local welfare groups, i certainly hope to contribute more to the local animal community in whatever feeble ways i can.

Funny thing, it was actually Chester that opened that door for me and i can never thank the dog enough for all the opportunities he created for me to help his other furry comrades. Never would have imagined that a four-legged had the ability to open more doors for me than any other two-leggeds!

Anyways, go sayang one of your community cats today! Meeeeeoooooowww!
