Fantasie Impromptu

Not a big Mozart fan although many people have advised me that that's the way to go in improving the baby's intellect. I have tonnes of Chopin CDs at home though and i think i shall feed the baby that for the time being....hehe! I've loved Chopin's works since i was young and i think he's one of the best, or possibly the BESTEST composer in his time (or even before or beyond his time). Love his nocturnes, etudes, waltzes, polonaises and each time i hear Chopin on the radio or in his shopping malls, i beat myself up for not having enough drive to finish my performance diploma 15 years ago. I'm not the kind who look back at life with regrets that "i should have done this and that" but if there's one regret i have in life, it's that. Did i tell you that if i hadn't gone to vet school, i would have gone on to pursue a career in music? I probably said that a kazillion but don't mind me, i'm just rambling!

Some people absolutely cannot appreciate Chopin because of the technicality involved, just like how some people simply cannot understand Steve Vai and deem him a "guitar wanker". Stringing nonsensical notes together and playing it at lightning speed is musical diarrhoea, but Chopin or Steve Vai's music definitely don't fall under that description (even though i know some might beg to differ!!). Fluidy, eloquent, poetic - that's how i would describe their music

Anyways, Chopin's "Fantasie Impromptu" has always been one of my favourite Chopin tracks. This, and Nocturne in E flat have been the baby's music feed these 2 days, plus random symphonies, concertos and what-nots on FM 92.4 and of course, whatever's playing in the car which happens to be Mr. Jay Chou himself most of the time! Oh yah, and the colleagues have also started to sing me nursery rhymes complete with dancing and action. It was so hilarious i nearly just keeled over from laughing too hard - need to get it down on video sometime soon and upload it to youtube!! I think the husband and i will need to bring out the acoustic guitar soon and start learning some kiddy songs so we can entertain the bub next time!!

Ok so i digressed - back to Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu. Found this video on youtube and i got goosebumps (the good kind, not the freaky kind) just watching the boy. Of course, if you want to be bloody critical, there are faults to pick out lah but truth be told, for his age, he really is pretty amazing and i'm more than impressed with his calibre!

Found a 2nd video which was even more amazing. This time, it was an electric guitar doing the same song. Very, very, very neat work although it probably is easier to play the FI on a guitar compared to the piano. Oh, and the guitarist's finger looks really tense, cramped up, like a spider crawling over the fretboard! I'm guessing this may be because this is already his 1056th take? Muahahaha!

Okay, back to more music. It's been awhile since i've indulged in classical music so it's refreshing to sit back and enjoy familiar tunes that i used to love while i was still a kid. :)
